Kas and its Vicinity

Kekova The island of Kekova are a perfect destination for an idyllic daily boat trip. Alongside the rocky coast you can discover the picturesque remains of an ancient castle and the ruins of the sunken city. After an underwater earthquake this ancient byzantine city sunk into the coastal waters. It is particularly impressive to admire these ancient remains from a glass bottom boat.

Saklikent Saklikent Gorge ("Hidden Valley") is the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey - 18 km long and so steep and narrow that the sun does not penetrate the water, leaving it deliciously icy-cold in the summer. Once inside, water-sculpted limestone canyon walls soar above you. Saklikent is a Canyon which is unbelievably beatiful, mystic and fascinating. You can walk one kilometer through water to reach Saklikent.

Myra
Myra was a leading city of the Lycian Union and surpassed Xanthos in early Byzantine times to become the capital city of Lycia.  Its remains are situated about 1.5 km north of today's Demre, on the Kas-Finike road. Most of the ancient city is now covered by Demre and alluvial silts, for it is located on the river Demre Cay in a fertile alluvial plain.  Today this large plain is almost covered with greenhouses stuffed full of tomatoes.  In ancient times this area was probably farmed extensively, for export and trade with the interior of Lycia.

Patara and Kaputas Within 45 min. from Kas there is the beach of Patara stretching out for 18 kilometres and allowing for endless walks along the waterfront. This fine sandy beach is not only a paradise for swimming and snorkeling but also a protected area for sea turtles laying their eggs in that area.
